Not The Start We Envisioned

What's Happening

Here we are 6 weeks into the season sitting at a winless 0-5. We just can't seem to break the losing streak. Our last 3 games were 1 possession L's that could have gone either way and it just so happened to be that they did not go in our favor. Our defense just isn't getting the job done. We rank dead last in points given up, rushing yards allowed, and near the bottom in anything and everything else. The only thing we have going for us is our #8 ranked pass defense. Dropped interceptions, inability to force stops on 3rd down, and inconsistencies on the offensive side of the ball all add up. Playing longer games has been a bit of an adjustment. The run game seems more valuable than ever and that's something we'll need to work on as we rank dead last in rushing yards on offense. Jarad Goff is the man and he needs a solid run game to play off of and he simply has not had that yet.

What Do We Do?

We know what the problems are. Now it's time to fix em. The acquisition of WR Tim Patrick has been great so far but we simply cannot expect to win games by relying on 40-60 pass attempts per game. Worst rushing offense in the league? Focus on emphasizing the run game. Rank dead last in points given on defensively? Stop giving up so many damn points. But what's even better will be the return of edge rusher Romeo Okwara in a short few weeks. In 5 games we have musted up a measly 14 sacks and that just isn't going to cut it. The lack of his presence is shown as opposing teams can consistently give their QBs ample time to rip us apart in the secondary.

Projections

We travel to Atlanta next week to face off against the Falcons who sit at 3 - 3. They seem to have a high power offense rank 10th in total points scored and 4th in rushing yards. Their defense seems to be their weakness ranking 30th in total yards and passing yards given up. If we can stop their run game and force a few turnovers, we just might have a shot at breaking our losing streak.
