The Offseason

Free Agency

We stayed busy in free agency this year and signed quite a few depth pieces.

  • DE Za'Darious Smith

  • DE Sammy Bennett

  • DT Michael Pierce

  • LB Malik Harrison

  • LB Zach Cunningham

  • CB Trey Flowers

  • CB Marcus Peters

  • OG Lamont Gaillard

  • WR Tyler Boyd

  • RB Aaron Jones

We missed out on a pair of big targets this year. We had max offers on DE Demarcus Lawrence and CB Kendall Sheffield but that did not seem to be enough as they signed elsewhere.

Trade!

Things are ramping up for the final season of the cycle. We attempted to make a trade with the San Francisco 49ers owned and coached by Mr. PayneTrayn. They were interested in acquiring the services of cornerback Trayvon Mullens during the previous offseason so we hit them up to see if they were still interested. They were. A deal was agreed to that involved us shipping out CB Trayvon Mullens in exchange for DE Arik Armstead, someone they had tagged for 2 straight years as they were unable to come to terms on a long-term deal. The Trade Committee did not think it was a fair deal. The guidelines as to how they evaluated transactions had changed and any trade that included an abilities player on one side would need to be accommodated with the receiving of one in return for "value" purposes. We tried to renegotiate and offered some ability players but ultimately a deal could not be made so we went back to the drawing board to figure out our next move. Since the cycle began, we made multiple attempts to acquire the services of Montez Sweat. After being told "NO!" by the previous two Washington Football Team users, we hit up the latest owner that had taken over. After much back and forth, we came to terms on a mutually beneficial deal. The deal:

Jets send: CB Trayvon Mullens - Star 90 overall

LB Davion Taylor - X-Factor 87 overall

DE Owen McMillian - Normal 80 overall

WFT Sends: OLB Montez sweat - SS 90 overall

Our main objective this offseason was to improve the pass rush and that ended up being just what we did. The cost is pretty significant but the hope is that we can generate enough pass rush to make up for any weaknesses in the secondary. We still have 2 trades left so be on the lookout for potentially another move.

Draft

Its the last season. Who cares about the draft?
